Helvetic Airways appoints new media relations officer

Simon Benz assumed responsibility for corporate communications at Helvetic Airways on 1 October. Benz, who is 46, takes charge of all internal and external communications at the Swiss regional carrier, and will further serve as the prime contact for all media inquiries.

Simon Benz succeeds Mehdi Guenin, who left the company at the end of September. “We are delighted that, in Simon, we have secured the services of such an experienced specialist for our airline,” says Helvetic Airways CEO Tobias Pogorevc. “As a communications consultant and a former journalist focusing on the tourist travel industry, Simon has been well familiar with the aviation sector for more than 14 years now. He can also draw on an extensive network of contacts and connections throughout the media world.”

Simon Benz has assumed his new Helvetic Airways duties under a collaboration between the airline and the PrimCom communications agency, which specializes in tourism and travel, and for whom he has been serving as a consultant since 2014. Prior to this he spent seven years with tourism industry magazine Travel Inside, the last two of them in the additional capacity of deputy editor-in-chief of the MICE-tip magazine (formerly MICE Inside – meetings, incentives, conventions, events).

A native of the Basel region, Simon Benz holds a master’s (lic. phil. I) degree in media, film and Japanese studies from the University of Zurich.

Swiss regional airline Helvetic Airways provides a range of short- and medium-haul air services from various Swiss airports. The carrier deploys its Embraer E190-E2, E195-E2 and E190-E1 aircraft on scheduled, charter and wet-lease flights. At least six Helvetic Airways Embraer E190-E2s and E195-E2s are being operated in winter 2023/24 and summer 2024 on behalf of Swiss International Air Lines in summer 2023 under a long-term wet-lease agreement.

The Helvetic Airways workforce numbers over 510 employees. The company also has its own maintenance hangar and operation at Zurich Airport, which is further home to its corporate head office. The airline offers innovative part-time employment models to its cockpit and cabin personnel. For its cabin attendants these include ‘Ski&Fly’, ‘Fly&Study’ and the fully flexible ‘Fly your way’ model. Details of current vacancies at Helvetic will be found at career.helvetic.com.

Helvetic Airways has been working closely with Horizon Swiss Flight Academy AG (www.horizon-sfa.ch), which is based in Kloten, Switzerland, since 2008. Both companies are part of the Helvetic Airways Group, which is domiciled in Freienbach, Switzerland.
